CCP Celebrates Pasinaya 2012

Pasinaya 2012 (News Article)
Rationale

The informative and descriptive local news was composed for the readers who are interested with Cultural Center of the Philippines Pasinaya festival. I saw what happened in the event last February 26, 2012, the queue for different shows and different theaters within the CCP house.

This updated story is thoroughly researched using links from Google. In addition, I have been aided by a friend who is skilled and adept in editing.

I composed my lead article with the help of the Journalism Handbook pages 41-46. I used the prepositional phrase lead for the grammatical-beginning lead. I also include a descriptive lead for its novelty.

The type of news story that I have utilized is straight news as it depends on vividness and up-to-date facts for readers’ interest. The Inverted Pyramid is a distinctive aspect of the straight news story. The first paragraph of this news story would be thought-provoking for readers as I convey the 5 Ws (who, what, when, where, why) and how making it brief and concise and further convey the story.

The goal of this news story is to provide knowledge and information with accuracy and usefulness for the readers.

Personally, it will be an exciting experience for me to write a news story such as this and I believe that one of the beneficiaries will be us, the Filipino people, especially those who are artistic-minded.

I am writing this for the Philippine Star newspaper. I studied their outline and I do hope it will capture my readers’ attention.

CCP Celebrates Pasinaya 2012

Pasay City, Philippines - The Pasinaya 2012 was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last February 26, 2012 where 120 performances and thousands of artists were featured led by CCP’s resident companies in twelve theaters of the house from 8AM to 7PM. The Pasinaya 2012 highlighted regional culture – specifically Ilonggo Culture with Dinagyang and the whole spectrum of Ilonggo arts– music, culinary, film, and dance.

The vividness of the festival was shown in all the elements of the event, calendar of activities and performances. Steep sunlight did not hinder the audience to watch the collaborative performances while the unwearied performers gave the same energy since their first performance - Tribung Lunok of the Iloilo City National High School. Every section and theater had its blockbuster queue present in every corner of the CCP House. CCP gave orange risk bands for 20 pesos which the public used as pass in every show.

The term Pasinaya comes from the Tagalog word “pasinayang” which means a launch, or a start – the beginning of the cultural season via primary performances at the CCP. Pasinaya is known as "the largest multi-arts festival in the country involving almost 5,000 artists and 120 shows in a single day."

The celebration showcased artists from dance, music, theater, visual arts, literature and cinema took part in the festivities including the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Tanghalang Pilipino, Bayanihan Philippines National Folk Dance Company, the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, Ballet Philippines, Philippine Ballet Theater and the winners of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists.

Pasinaya 2012 offered workshops, information booths, exhibits, Cinemalaya film screenings, puppet shows, storytelling, performance poetry, a culinary fair and cooking demos, and an arts and collectibles market.

The traditional chimes were played before the singing of Philippine National Anthem. “We prepared collaborative works from different companies of the country which will not fail everone’s taste in arts. I hope you will enjoy the whole day of shows. I now officially open the Pasinaya 2012. Enjoy and God bless!” declared Mr. Raul Sunico, CCP President.

The Philippines Coasts Guards Band led the parade of the CCP resident companies and performers. Ilonggo performances ensured with the Dinagyang Festival as its main feature. Dinagyang Festival 2012 1st runner-up, Tribu Lunok of Iloilo City National High School showed Dinagyang street dance around the streets of the CCP Complex as they performed five times.

Different familiar personalities were part of theater production like Cedric Castillano, a reporter of GMA7, as he portrayed the role of son of Tenyente Fuego at Baraks ni Tenyente Fuego a production of Artists, Incorporation. Dance companies from various universities performed dance techniques and tricks with themes and stories. “This was my 3rd time in Pasinaya, actually there were more audiences last year than this year but I was blessed because not just our choir participated but also our dance company. I’m proud of them,” elaborated Mr. Lorenzo C. Gealogo, a music director of De La Salle university, Calamba and Colegio de San Juan De Letran. After watching different shows, he added, “It was a fulfilling task and emotional for me. I was happy to see my students performing very well.”

The Pasinaya participation of Iloilo City through Dinagyang and other cultural activities was in line with the city’s pursuit of its vision to be a premier city, particularly with the objective of becoming a center for culture, the arts and sports.
